District Nursing Team & Community Treatment Rooms

The practice works closely with the district nursing team who give nursing care to patients in their homes, particularly frail and elderly patients. Community Treatments Rooms for B12 injections, stitch/clip/staples removal and dressings are available at various sites in Renfrewshire.

Holiday Health

It is always a wise precaution to pack some essential items in case of illness on holiday. Do choose medicines according to your needs and the country you are intending to visit. lf you take prescription medicines regularly remember to pack them too.

You may want to consider packing the following:

  • Paracetamol Travel Sickness tablets Plasters and a small crepe bandage
  • Rehydration solutions such as Dioralyte, Anti diarrhoeal for example lmodium
  • High factor sunscreen
  • Anti material tablets, Water purification tablets, Insect repellent
  • Condoms and other contraceptives
  • Sunhats for yourself and children

Travel Vaccination Charges

We offer most of the travel health service at no additional charge to the patient. However, the NHS does not cover the cost of all the treatments you may need. Therefore, for some services you may need to pay.

There are fees of £15 for private prescriptions for travel vaccines and medicines. If the patient requires yellow fever, they will be charged by the travel clinic at the Glasgow Airport.

Malaria Tablets are NOT provided on the NHS and sometimes can be bought over-the-counter or may require a private prescription. The nurse can advise regarding this or you could discuss with your pharmacist.

Non-urgent advice: Remember

Some tablets have to be started at least one week before you travel, and you need continue to take them when you return home for the advised length of time.

Translation Service

This practice offers a translator service for those patients who do not have English as their first language. When arranging an appointment please inform the receptionist you require an interpreter and she will be arrange this for you.

For people who are not of hearing, the practice can arrange for a recognised sign language interpreter to come to the practice. When arranging an appointment please inform reception or the Practice Manager who will arrange this service for you.

It is important for patients to let us know of any communication services required prior to appointment to ensure a high quality standard of care can be provided.

Any services used are bound by confidentiality.

Smear Tests and Well Women

There are no set clinics for smear tests, to give patients a greater choice of when they would like to be seen.

Sister Campbell and Sister Love are available to take smear tests and advise on concerns or fears you may have related to having a smear test.

Cervical screening is routinely offered to anyone with a cervix in Scotland between the ages of 25 and 64 every 5 years.

You may be recalled more often depending on your test results

You will no longer be invited for cervical screening after the age of 65 unless results from previous screenings showed changes that need to be monitored.

Sick Lines

Patients requiring a fit note should usually make an appointment with one of the GPs, sometimes a fit note can be issued after a telephone consultation e.g. on discharge from hospital. To ensure the continuity of your sick note, please make a note of it’s end date, so that you can call for an appointment on the correct day.

Private Work and Fees

The practice provides a number of additional services which are not covered by our contract with the Health Board (for example private medicals, letters, reports, etc.).

We have to make additional charges for these services.

Specialist Nurse Service

The practice liaise with a team of specialist nurses who visit our patients with Multiple Sclerosis, Learning Disabilities and who are in need of Palliative Care.

These teams are also bound by our Code of Confidentiality in the Practice.

Health Visitors

Our Health Visitor team based at Glenburn Health Centre are involved in the health care of our children. They ensure children are reaching their developmental milestones at the correct times.
